Isabella Garrard, a highly engaged freshman at Mississippi State University, is already building valuable experience as a data science major. Her connection to MSU began in high school through speech and debate competitions, which made choosing Mississippi State a natural next step.
Since enrolling, Isabella has become involved in TRIO, the Promise Program, and the BRIDGES Undergraduate Research Program. Through these opportunities, she has broadened her academic interests and recently presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, a premier national event that celebrates undergraduate achievement, showcases exemplary research and creative activity, and supports student career readiness development.
As a first-generation college student, Isabella is intentional about making the most of every opportunity. She believes growth comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone and asking questions, whether you feel confident or uncertain. One piece of advice that continues to guide her is “Closed mouths don’t get fed.”
